A Bacon Bath
It's International Bacon Day! And you won't believe some of the insane treats available
Today is the day to pig out.
It’s International Bacon Day, celebrated since 2000 on the Saturday before Labor Day, just in time for the typical holiday overindulgence. But today you have permission to eat that flavorful-of-all-flavorful stuff, smoked or fried, crispy or greasy, however you please – all in the name of foodie love.
Why not start the day in the spirit of the feast with, say, a bacon jam pancake cupcake from Petite Sweets? These mini-morsels easily pop into your mouth for a sugary bacon surprise. We know: CultureMap tested them a day early, just to make sure (wink, wink).
Moving on to more bacon delights, how about:
A bean and cheese taco with bacon (this writer’s favorite) from your neighborhood taqueria?
Bacon-wrapped beef, shrimp and, for the bird hunters out there, dove after the season’s opening day Monday, Sept. 1?
Or how about trying to duplicate in your kitchen one of the State Fair of Texas' eight fried-food finalists, the Texas Fried Fireballs with pimento cheese, pickles, cayenne and, of course, bacon?
Share with us your favorite bacon-topped, wrapped, loaded, filled, infused or even on-the-side hamburger, pizza, eggs, oysters, quiche, salad, etc. Let's toast (with bacon) to this day of the marbled wonder.
