Pizzitola's has been making East Texas-style barbecue for 70 years but Tuesday night marks its national television debut (we think), representing Houston on an episode of Road Trip with G. Garvin, which airs at 8 p.m. on Cooking Channel tonight.
Considering the camera-ready ebullience of owner Jerry Pizzitola and the cross-section of Houston that can be found at Pizzitola's at any given lunch — from local workers to Houston's high-powered suits — it seems like the barbecue joint known for its ribs would be a natural fit.
The segment filmed in February and is part of a larger "Best of the Bayou" episode that covers ground from Houston to New Orleans.
Not to downplay any national attention for Houston, but I'm a little wary after Garvin told Eating Our Words that he wanted to come to Houston in addition to Louisiana because it's "known for its excellent barbecue." Um, what?
