Celebrate Tequila Day
Get in the spirit: Best places in Houston to celebrate National Tequila Day
If you thought Cinco de Mayo was the only day you have a legitimate excuse to drink tequila (not that you need one), then you had better get excited for National Tequila Day, coming up Thursday (July 24). If you're looking to celebrate the holiday this year, we've rounded up some of the best places in town to get your tequila on.
The Pastry War, 310 Main Street
As one of Houston's most highly acclaimed bars — recently lauded by Travel + Leisure and named one of America's best bars by Esquire — The Pastry War, a bar devoted to tequila and mezcal, is the perfect place to celebrate National Tequila Day. Owner Bobby Heugel told CultureMap's Eric Sandler that the establishment's "house margarita is the best margarita (he's) ever had" — quite the statement considering the source was nominated for a James Beard Award. With 24 varieties of tequila, as well as a number of margarita options, you're bound to find something to whet your whistle and celebrate the day accordingly.
TQLA, 4601 Washington Avenue
Celebrate at TQLA, one of the city's best loved tequila bars, where you can also learn how to craft the perfect margarita in a class led by the bar's knowledgeable mixologists. With specials like $6 house margaritas, discounts on tequila flights and tap shots, as well as half-priced fajitas, TQLA has just what you need to celebrate National Tequila Day the right way.
Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, 12639 Westheimer and 6401 Woodway
Both area locations of Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen are celebrating National Tequila Day all week long. Now through Friday, Sylvia's is offering $5 Titanium Tequila margaritas and $5 appetizers — ranging from ceviche and chalupas to flautas and chile con queso — to customers at the restaurant bar from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
On Thursday, Sylvia's is offering margaritas to bar patrons for only $1.99 between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and street tacos will be available for $5 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
El Big Bad, 419 Travis
Head to downtown's El Big Bad to celebrate National Tequila Day with uniquely crafted margaritas and specialty tequila cocktails. Known for their infused tequilas, the gastrocantina serves up delicious, hand-crafted cocktails such as The Texan, which features Milagro Single Barrel Reserve Anejo, lemon and lime juice, Grand Marnier and agave. With tasty edible options like chorizo empanadas, pozole and six varieties of tacos available to accompany your beverages, El Big Bad is a great place to celebrate Mexico's best-loved spirit.
On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, 25686 Northwest Freeway
If you're looking for somewhere to celebrate in Cypress, then head to On The Border, a casual Tex-Mex restaurant with locations across the USA. The Cypress location is offering $2 house margaritas as well as $2 Lunazul Reposado tequila shots in honor of National Tequila Day. Make sure to accompany your drinks with the eatery's Tex-Mex favorites like quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas.
Cadillac Bar, 1802 Shepherd and #7 Kemah Boardwalk
Both of Cadillac Bar's Houston-area locations are featuring drink specials in honor of National Tequila Day, including $3.50 house margaritas, $2 tequila drinks and $6 Peach Diablo margaritas. The restaurants are also offering up tequila samples to revelers and the event is set to feature prize giveaways.
