Tailgating starts now! Top Houston restaurants get an early jump on footballseason
The best part of football season, like the best part of anything, is the food — from burgers to barbecue (and let's not forget the beer). According to Yahoo!, Houston Texans fans are the biggest and the best tailgaters in the country — and now some of the city's favorite restaurants are getting in on the action.
On Saturday Houston Texans Grille at CityCentre is throwing the first-ever Houston Tailgate Throwdown, challenging chefs in categories like "most original," "best tailgate classic," and "top dish with a kick." Texans nose tackle and amateur foodie Earl Mitchell will join this writer and a panel of foodie judges, but fans will also get a chance to award their favorite dish.
The event kicks off at noon and features a diverse group of restaurants, including Underbelly, Hay Merchant, Original Ninfa's on Navigation, Pizzitola's, Branch Water Tavern, La Fisheria and many more.
If that isn't reason enough to go, there's also the chance to hang out with some lovely Texans cheerleaders and check out the 65 HD televisions. The Texans' first preseason game is on Aug. 11, so you'll want to evaluate the optimal viewing spot.
Tickets to the Houston Tailgate Throwdown are $20 and benefit Houston Food Bank.
