The Make-Out Bar Returns
Houston's secret make-out bar rises again with surprise reopening: Windowless fun is back
Well, that didn't take long. Just two and a half month after Marfreless closed its unmarked blue door for good, the legendary make-out bar is already planning to reopen again.
It's the same spot, at 2006 Peden in the River Oaks Shopping Center, but under new ownership — presumably one that can afford the alleged $12,400 per month that Weingarten Realty was trying to charge for the windowless space that Marfreless called home since 1976.
"All this comes with a complete renovation — from wires and carpet to the furniture you . . . sit on," the new owner wrote in a post on the bar's website, while assuring longtime patrons that the "unique atmosphere, premium menu, friendly staff, and neighborhood charm" would remain the same.
The reopening date has been set for sometime this summer.
