Inside a bottle of Hendrick's
Fractured fairy tale: Hendrick's Gin launches "Voyages Into The Unusual" withodd occurences & tasty tipples
Step through the garden gate. Wander along the path to a water well, where a pixie ladles a scoop of peach-flavored punch into a delicate glass. The surrounding lawn is scattered with an air balloon's wreckage. A nearby pig pen is sprinkled with rose petals, a wheelbarrow is stacked with cucumbers, a greenhouse is lined with fragrant herbs and exotic plans.
This may sound more like a scene from a fairy tale than a slice of a Houston summer evening, but Hendrick's Gin has made this dream into a brief reality with its "Voyages Into The Unusual."
Henrick's signature gin — made by combining spirits from two different stills, then infusing the mixture with rose and cucumber essence — has long been recognized for its delicious taste, and is now maturing in its brand identity.
The Hendrick's team has transformed the grounds of The Parador into an alternate world filled with antiquated personalities, odd occurrences and tasty tipples.
"The real goal of Voyages is to celebrate the unusual, celebrate Hendricks and bring our unusual world to the consumer," Dave Welty, Hendrick's brand ambassador, tells CultureMap.
For the tour's three-day-stop in Houston, which ends Thursday night, the Hendrick's team transformed the grounds of The Parador into an alternate world, one filled with antiquated personalities, odd occurrences and tasty tipples.
One that, in Welty's estimation, looks like "the inside of a bottle of Hendrick's."
The five-port tour kicked off in Houston on Tuesday with A Delightfully Peculiar Cocktail Academy, a class meant to demystify the idea of making a cocktail at home. On Wednesday, local bartenders were treated to a brunch.
And on Wednesday and Thursday evening, Hendrick's invites consumers to step into this world and partake in an all-out party.
On Thursday, Hendrick's invites consumers to join their world and partake in an all-out party.
There, the sounds of the White Ghost Shivers echo through the Duomo, characters interact with guests and servers mix up unexpected creations like the earthy "Greenwich Mean Thyme" and the sweet, savory "Trip to the Moon" — made with Hendrick's Gin, red bell pepper, lime and sweet syrup, garnished with a cucumber wheel and some "magic dust."
Careful, curious details are apparent from the molding on the bar in an Explorer's Lounge, to the handwritten menus, to apothecary's laboratory, filled with diagrams and dissections and secretive drawers.
While waiting for a drink at the Unusual Creature Crate, one might be approached by a magician, or startled by a dapper goatman, or whipped by the petticoats of a hurried botanist.
For this suspended reality and those delicious drinks, it's worth it all.
Register here for "Voyages Into The Unusual" on Thursday. Admission is free, and the event lasts from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
