Lopez celebrates 40
Beloved Tex-Mex restaurant celebrates opening of new location with free food giveaway
A Houston Tex-Mex institution is celebrating its 40th birthday in style — by finally opening the doors to its eagerly-anticipated second location.
Lopez Mexican Restaurant has completed the renovations that turned the shuttered Brick and Mortar Kitchen into its new location in Richmond. Located adjacent to the Gallery Furniture on the Grand Parkway, the restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, June 2, which is also the 40th anniversary of the restaurant's original location in Southwest Houston.
A representative tells CultureMap that the Lopez family made a number of changes to the space, including expanding the bar and extending the restaurant's footprint further into Gallery Furniture. The covered patio has been converted into a covered entrance.
What hasn't changed are the Lopez family's signature recipes for fajitas, enchiladas, queso, and more. Diners will find a limited menu for the first month while the kitchen gets up to speed, but the offerings at both restaurants will be identical starting in July.
The restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday at 4 pm with a ribbon cutting party. In addition, the first 40 people in line will win free meals for a year (once a week, more terms and conditions here).
