Good news for gumbo fans: Brooks Bassler's popular BB's Cafe is opening a second location downtown in the theater district.
Building on the success of the original Montrose location, which opened in 2007, the new BB's will offer the same "Tex-Orleans" favorites: po'boys, boudin balls, catfish, grillades and grits and more, but the downtown space will also focus on boxed lunches and breakfasts for delivery (all-day and all-night), and will continue the BB's habit of staying open late for the post-theater crowds.
BB's is set to open in summer 2010 at 509 Louisiana, in the former Longhorn Café spot just north of Alley Theatre, Jones Hall and Hotel Lancaster. The century-old building should add some historic charm and character, as will the courtyard patio with its magnificent pecan tree.
