These seven Star Wars-inspired cocktails can awaken the Force in you
Before annual fandom holiday Star Wars Day hits on Thursday (May 4), you'll want to get into the right frame of mind. And what better way to do it than by imbibing a Star Wars-inspired cocktail? Here are seven thirst-quenchers inspired by the epic movie series that can be sipped at two Houston hotspots.
May the 4th be with you.
Han Shot First at Milano Bar
Milano Bar at CityCentre pays tribute to Star Wars with several themed cocktails, available now through Thursday (May 4), including the Han Shot First made with whiskey, French herbal liqueur, and Italian herbal liqueur. It’s presented in a smokin' snifter glass, a cool reminder of Han Solo frozen in carbonite in Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back.
“It’s a sensory experience while addressing a point of contention in Star Wars lore. The smoke creates an amazing aromatic bouquet that compliments the herbal and slightly citrus flavor profile of the cocktail,” bar manager Brandon Hernandez tells CultureMap of his creation.
The roster of special drinks also includes the Tosche Station, named for the desert bar in the world of Tatooine in Star Wars: Episode IV, mixed with bourbon, bitters, grapefruit juice, basil, and fresh honey, and the Nerf Herder, an homage to the caretakers of the fictional cattle-like animals, blended with mezcal, bitter orange Italian aperitif, French herbal liqueur, and lemon juice.
Obi Wan Negroni at Nobie’s
The force is strong at Montrose eatery Nobie’s, where bartenders are offering up some out of this galaxy creations, available on Thursday. Fit for a Jedi master, the Obi Wan Negroni is made with mezcal, an aperitif, pineapple shrub, and bitters, served with ice in a low ball glass.
Declare your allegiance to the Light or Dark Side, choosing between tiki drinks, the alluring Rebel Pilot, stirred with pineapple aged rum, fresh lime juice, bitter orange liqueur, spiced-citrusy-sweet syrup, bitters, and Absinthe, and the sinfully-good Imperial Pilot, featuring rum, fresh lime juice, bitter orange liqueur, a pecan-orgeat shrub, fernet liqueur, and bitters.
Or skip straight to the Yoda's Ghost, a house spin on a Green Zombie cocktail mixed with the standard ingredients of rum and citrus, plus new twists: Absinthe, herb-infused simple syrup, and cinnamon. All three drinks are delivered in mugs that resemble characters from the mega-hit films. “We started with names, and then built the cocktails around them,” says bar manager Sarah Troxell.
Obi Wan Negroni recipe:
1.5 oz Del Maguey Vida Mezcal
.75 oz Campari
.5 oz Sarah's Shrubs Pineapple Shrub
.5 oz Amargo Angostura
Stir all and strain into a glass with fresh ice. Garnish with orange peel.
