The original Ruggles Grill is being torn down to make room for the forthcoming Brande, but Houston might still have more Ruggles in its future.
Bruce Molzan is working on a new concept at the former Brownstone space, most recently occupied by Olivier Ciesielski (who, in the never-ending-game of movable chefs, recently opened L'Olivier's in a strip center site on lower Westheimer that formerly housed an adult bookstore). Scheduled for a mid- to late-summer opening, the new Molzan concept will be certified green and offer soups, sandwiches and other American fare.
Though there has been no decision on a name for the concept, reviving the "Ruggles" brand is reportedly still a possibility.
It could be interesting to see if Houston diners will return to Ruggles — and Molzan. The original Ruggles Grill closed in February after a staff walk-out over unpaid tips turned into a contentious standoff. The remaining restaurants with the Ruggles name — Ruggles Cafe & Bakery in Rice Village and multi-location Ruggles Green — are no longer affiliated with or owned by Molzan.
