It's touted as the Caribbean's most popular rum and is now available in the United States, and at Houston liquor stores.
Meet Brugal rum.
The brand celebrated its recent Bayou City launch and saved Valentine's Day for some with a Caribbean fete and Plain White T's concert at the House of Blues. The Dominican Republic-based spirit company was in good with us immediately; it's more than 100 years old and still run by the founding family. We liked the Añejo best with 7Up and lime or a splash of pineapple juice, but prefer the Extra Viejo — a premium run, still aged in oak barrels.
Brugal is available at Spec's stores for around $22 for a bottle of añejo. Here's one recipe for it:
Brugal Golden Mojito:
Ingredients:
- 50 ml Brugal Añejo Rum
- 15 ml sugar syrup
- 2 lime wedges
- mint leaves
- Ginger Ale
Place mint leaves in base of glass
Mix rum and sugar syrup over crushed ice
Muddle
Top off glass with Ginger Ale
Garnish with lime
