On Sunday, Philip Speer, Uchi's director of restaurants, tweeted that the kitchen at Uchi Houston had successfully prepared its first-ever dish. Now the much-anticipated Austin import has announced an opening date.
The restaurant will open to the public on Feb. 2, with reservations available starting on Wednesday both online and by phone.
Uchi Houston is located in the former Felix space near the corner of Montrose and Westheimer, with a design by Austin's Michael Hsu. According to a press release, Houston's Uchi will combine the best dishes from Austin's original Uchi as well as the more casual spin-off, Uchiko.
James Beard Award-winning chef/owner Tyson Cole will offer direction while Kaz Edwards of Uchi Austin will serve as chef de cuisine and Speer protégé Monica Glenn as pastry chef.
