Voodoo that you do
Edgy Portland doughnut chain reveals opening date for Washington Avenue locale
Houston's wait for Bacon Maple Bars and Diablos Rex doughnuts come to an end next week. Voodoo Doughnut will open its eagerly anticipated first Houston location on January 15, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Located in the former Sammy's Wild Game Grill space at 3715 Washington Ave., the new Voodoo will be the Portland-based company's first location with a drive-thru. Like its siblings in six other cities across the country, the Houston shop will be open 24/7 — making it equally appealing to Washington Avenue revelers seeking a sweet treat at the end of the night and downtown workers who want to be the office hero.
Voodoo Doughnut has earned wide acclaim for its creative doughnuts such as the signature Voodoo Doll with raspberry jelly filling and the Diablos Rex with a vanilla frost pentagram. Some of its more scandalous offerings include the Maple Blazer Blunt and the Cock-N-Balls doughnuts, both of which are shaped to resemble their names.
Whether Voodoo's arrival results in the same hour-long waits Houstonians recently endured for In-N-Out Burger remains to be seen, but we'll predict the shop draws a healthy crowd. Expect substantial lines for at least the first few weeks.
