Think about your everyday: most of it is lived online, and therefore buying or selling a house should be no different. That's partially how Nancy Almodovar of Nan and Company Properties/Christie's International Real Estate approaches her industry, which she's watched evolve over her past decade in residential real estate.

When Almodovar started the company at her kitchen table in 2014, she was determined to build up a business where both her clients and agents would feel comfortable approaching with questions.

Part of that strategy involved heavy social media use, and it's one of the vital factors that has helped Nan and Co. grow from its original office on Post Oak Boulevard in the Galleria area to a second location opening soon in The Heights.

"Realtors in Houston who have the most social media followers are Nan agents," Almodovar says. "It's an exciting and personal way that Houstonians — and those outside the city — can see what we're up to, what's hot on the market, and how involved we are in our community."

Building up that presence soon paid off, as Nan and Co. became the exclusive Houston affiliate for Christie's International Real Estate in 2016. That partnership has opened them up to connections with 138 international affiliated brokerages and 940 offices within 48 different countries.

"Our clients have access to certain things through us that they just wouldn't get anywhere else," says Almodovar. "We sell domestically but can market internationally, and there aren't many real estate companies that can say that."

In addition to Instagram, Almodovar and her agents have a strong presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, even hosting a podcast, blog, and vlog. Almodovar's YouTube channel alone has more than 3,000 subscribers.

Production companies have taken notice, and Nan and Co. has been pitched twice for a television show.

"It's a fascinating time to be buying and selling, but remember that you don't have to use the same real estate companies your parents did," Almodovar says. "You have options!"
