The new look of the Alabama Theater Trader Joe's is revealed and the opening isalmost here
As crews retrofit the vintage Alabama Theater marquee with energy-efficient LED lights, Weingarten real estate reps announced that west entrance of the former movie house on Shepherd is about to get its final exterior touches and official Trader Joe's branding.
In a Thursday email that included a rendering of the project, Weingarten's Carrie Murray said construction will begin on Monday and is expected to last about three weeks.

As a designated historic landmark, the 1930s-era building enjoys certain protections from the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission (HAHC), at least as far as the exterior is concerned. In September 2011, the HAHC unanimously approved all outside adjustments including the upcoming west entrance work.
City preservationists have been watching the transformation of the beloved theater for months, sounding the alarm and capturing pictures with every new change.
Although renovation work is nearing completion, the formal opening day is expected to be Sept. 21.
