What commuter school! University of Houston to debut plush, high tech student apartments
Though University of Houston carried a reputation as a commuter school in the past, students enrolling at the Tier One institution will have more on- or near-campus housing options in the future.
In addition to the soon-to-open Cougar Village II dormitory and the Cougar Place apartments, The Vue on MacGregor is expected to begin serving students in the fall of 2014 as the university's first privately-owned off-campus community. (Prime Property was first to report on the news.)
The five-story, 347-bed building at Calhoun Road and South MacGregor comes from Dallas-based developer Fountain Residential Partners, which has built similar "Vue" concepts at Texas Christian University.
Units range from one to four bedrooms and offer everything a college student could want, from WiFi and DVR to granite countertops and "designer furniture."
Common area amenities include a cyber cafe, study lounges, a fitness center and a "state of the art tanning bed and gaming center that combines digital gaming and pool tables with a multi-screen TV area."
