A massive development located just steps from Buffalo Bayou has taken another step toward completion. Retail leasing has opened for the second phase of Regent Square, a new, mixed-use sprawling complex that will span 24 acres along W. Dallas Street — between historic College Memorial Park Cemetery and Waugh Drive.
A brainchild of GID Development Group, the district’s first phase, The Sovereign at Regent Square, is a 21-story residential tower that was completed in 2015. The second phase, located at W. Dallas and Dunlavy streets, will occupy approximately eight acres and feature a 600-unit multi-family project and 50,000 square feet of street level retail, according to a release. It promises to be a bustling gathering area for Inner Loop dwellers and guests.
The retail setting will circle a central plaza — designed by Houston-based OJB Landscape Architecture — encompassing two green spaces, a signature water feature, and a pedestrian promenade. Groundbreaking is anticipated in fall 2019.
Designed by CBT, an award-winning Boston-based architectural firm, Phase 2 was conceived as a “thoughtfully scaled and site-specific, three-dimensional piece of architecture” that will allow residents and visitors to relate to and engage with the curated and programmed urban environment, according to a statement.
“Our goal for Regent Square is the creation of an exemplary, urban mixed-use district in the heart of Houston,” said James Linsley, president of the GID Development Group, in a statement. “Phase 2, the core of the masterplan, is poised to establish the project as a dynamic, walkable place as it weaves high-quality restaurants, retail, and residential into the fabric of the surrounding neighborhoods.”
