Torchy's Tacos builds up its Houston presence, but finds the going slower than expected
Torchy's Tacos signed the lease on its Rice Village digs months ago, but construction work has begun in earnest at 2400 Times Boulevard.
Hungry undergrads are surely salivating at the very sight of the brand new "FIRING UP SOON!" sign at the near-campus restaurant, but Torchy's corporate can't say yet exactly how soon.
"Very tentative" is how Forrest Harrell, general manager of the Shepherd location, describes construction plans for two impending new Houston Torchy's. He says that the Austin-based chain's second Houston spot, slated for the iconic 19th Street building that once housed Harolds in the Heights, requires significant build-out.
But still, Harrell tells CultureMap that both forthcoming locations will be delivered as soon as possible. Look for late spring/early summer openings.
