Inspired and inspiring, Suzanne Kasler pushes boundaries with eclectic, comfortable homes
Atlanta-based interior designer Suzanne Kasler isn't afraid to have fun with her spaces.
"I have a foundation of tradition, but I like to have a fresh and younger approach to some aspects of a home," Kasler told CultureMap.
"My focus is getting the architectural envelope really bright and then worked from there, so a room doesn't need as much decorating."
Her approach has carried Kasler through more than two decades of success in high-end residential design.
This approach has carried Kasler through more than two decades of success in high-end residential design and, most recently, into product lines with Ballard Designs, Safavieh, Hickory Chair, Lee Jofa, Soicher Marin and Visual Comfort.
"I felt that there were certain voids in materials that I was looking for," Kasler said. "I just couldn't find them."
So she created them herself: Textiles, furniture, artwork and lighting that encompass a modern aesthetic with a reverence for the past, inspired by European style and Southern sensibility.
For her first book, Inspired Interiors, Kasler broke down design to its basic elements, demonstrating the importance of light, color and more through images of her interiors — many of them influenced by the works of other other designers.
"It was exciting to see the book come together," said Kasler, who is now working on a second book that incorporates her more recent design, expected to come out in the fall of 2013.
Kasler will be at the Houston Design Center Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a reception, program, luncheon and book signing of Inspired Interiors. Space is limited; register online here.
