Vintage Furniture First
Fab.com flash sale spotlights a Houston company loved by Rachael Ray and WesAnderson
Fab.com, the flash-sale site known for exclusive membership and a well-curated selection of design-oriented deals, is hosting its first vintage furniture sale on Feb. 20 — and a Houston company will be spotlighted.
With its founding by Houstonian Dutch Small in 2001, Forma Revivo filled a gap in the local furniture restoration scene. According to Small, the restoration of mid-century modern and Danish modern furniture, as well as vintage art and decorative objects, requires a different process and produces a different outcome than traditional antiques.
And, as a third generation furniture restorer who learned the tricks of the trade from his grandfather, Small would know.
"We really want to put our back into this," Small said. "We want to demonstrate to a wider audience the great work that we do and our commitment to excellence."
Over the past 10 years, Small has passed his knowledge to a committed crew of seven in Houston that restores mid-century gems sourced from all over the United States.
Though headquartered in Houston, much of Forma Revivo's business takes place online, with sales to interior designers in New York. Chef and daytime TV personality Rachael Ray, local pride Wes Anderson and fashion designer Max Azria are counted among the celebrities who own meticulously-restored Forma Revivo pieces. Houston designer Garrett Hunter is a repeat Forma Revivo customer.
Small attributes that loyalty to a high-quality product — "Everything is a designer piece, and everything has pedigree," Small tells CultureMap. Forma Revivo restores each piece with painstaking care, and follows up with a strong commitment to customer service.
So how did Small and Forma Revivo get this Fab.com gig? The short answer: The stars aligned when Fab.com sought a furniture retailer around the same time that Forma Revivo chose the site as the perfect outlet for its wears. A deal was struck, and a date set.
"We really want to put our back into this," said Small, who will list 60 mid-century pieces on the website's flash sale. "We want to demonstrate to a wider audience the great work that we do and our commitment to excellence."
Stop by the flash sale on Monday to find quality mid-century items at a discount of up to 60 percent. The sale lasts through Feb. 24, but don't wait until then — these deals will be snatched up quickly.
And if you don't score big online? Stop by Forma Revivo's at the Houston Modern Market from Feb. 24 through 26.
