After a busy holiday season of giving, the start of a new year is the perfect time to gift yourself some TLC. Several new Houston spas and skincare destinations are here to help, with indulgent services and cutting-edge treatments that relax and recharge clients, from scalp to toes. Here is your "new year, new me" spa-crawl itinerary for January 2025.

Biologique Recherche
Luxe Parisian skincare brand Biologique Recherche will open its first Texas location in River Oaks District (4444 Westheimer Rd.) on January 8. Founded in the 1970s and based on science, all of the spa's products are made in-house, with formulations for the entire body, from facial and scalp treatments to body care and professional devices. Biologique Recherche is known for its trend-averse approach and has a line of iconic products - including the P50, a daily exfoliating lotion - which has had a cult following since the 1970s and shows no signs of slowing down nearly five decades later.

Hi, Skin
Hi, Skin, known for its innovative, non-invasive treatments tailored to each client's unique needs, opened its fourth Houston location in late 2024. Hi, Skin offers everything from personalized facials to advanced skin therapies utilizing cutting-edge technology. The newest studio, in Rice Village (5425 Kelvin Dr.) blends Hi, Skin's high-tech skincare services with a design-forward approach environment. Guests can enjoy Hi, Skin's signature treatments, including The Really Good Facial and The Mini Facial. Popular add-ons such as Dermaplaning, Microdermabrasion, Oxygen Therapy, and Peel Infusion are also available.

Modern Halo
Katy's go-to head spa now has a second location in Memorial, at 9778 Katy Fwy. #200. Modern Halo specializes in hair health and growth, offering services including high-performance hair washing, scalp reflexology, hair rejuvenation, and head and neck massage. Modern Halo also offers hair consultations and blow-dry services at both locations.

The Ozone Bar
The Ozone Bar, a Dallas-based health and wellness spa, recently opened its first Houston location in the Shoppes of San Felipe (1415 S. Voss Rd. #130). The ultramodern facility provides an ozone therapy experience, which, they say, benefits the body by detoxing, increasing circulation, and stimulating blood cells for optimal energy output and nutrient absorption. The 1,800-square-foot spa features eight private treatment rooms, a wide selection of physician-grade supplements, a variety of the industry's most exclusive wellness brands, and four sought-after body-contouring treatments, including ozone sauna, infrared sauna, DermaShape, and HOCATT.

Thompson Spa
Thompson Spa at Thompson Houston recently launched a new menu of clinical skincare treatments to cleanse, correct, peel, and treat skin. The spa's newest treatments are touted for clients of all ages, including those with acne-prone skin and aging skin. The facials are tailored with programs to address acne, boost brightness and rejuvenate skin with little-to-no downtime, featuring products and peels formulated by renowned medical-grade skincare line Skinceuticals. Additionally, the spa has launched a selection of advanced Hydrafacials, including a Thompson Rx: HydraCeutical Advanced treatment, and all facial treatments can be upgraded with enhancements, including Clinical Extractions and Blue Light Therapy for acne, LED Light Therapy to reduce inflammation, and Nanochannel Biocellulose Mask to provide immediate relief for stressed skin.

Neiman Marcus' parent company emerges from bankruptcy with new name

The downtown Dallas flagship Neiman Marcus is still slated to close September 30.

NEW YORK (AP) — Saks Global, the parent company of Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman, officially emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with fewer stores, less debt, a more focused strategy to pamper the affluent — and a new name.

The company said Friday, June 26 that the new entity will be called Exemplar Luxury Group, and with an improved balance sheet, including a nearly 75% debt reduction and $500 million in extra financing. Its CEO, Geoffroy van Raemdonck, said the New York-based company is ready for its next chapter after navigating several tumultuous years.

“Today is really a brand new day for the organization and a new day where these three iconic banners have the right funding, the right equity and a bright future ahead of them,” van Raemdonck told The Associated Press.

Van Raemdonck said that the new name signifies the company's focus on having an exemplary shopping experience — the best merchandise, and better personalized service with customers, with help from its sales associates and the treasure trove of data it has on its customers. The company employs more than 1,500 sales associates who have sold more than $1 million of goods each, he said.

Saks Global had filed for bankruptcy protection in January of this year, buffeted by rising competition and the massive debt it took on to buy its rival in the luxury sector, Neiman Marcus, in July 2024.

Before the bankruptcy, there were 33 Saks stores and 36 Neiman Marcus locations, according to the company, as well as its Bergdorf Goodman store on Fifth Avenue and roughly 70 Saks Off 5th discount stores.

Now, there are a total of 49 stores — 15 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 33 Neiman Marcus stores and its Bergdorf Goodman store. The company shuttered most of its Saks Off Fifth discount stores, and it now has 12 outlets, the company said.

In early June, Saks Global announced that the iconic downtown Dallas location of Neiman Marcus, at 1618 Main St., will close for good. The company said it plans to close the store on September 30, 2026 and focus on its NorthPark Center location in Dallas. The company's only Houston location is at the Galleria.

Exemplar Luxury Group said it has been teaming up with Pentwater Capital Management and Bracebridge Capital throughout its restructuring process. Both firms will have two representatives on the seven-person board. In addition, van Raemdonck as well as former Ulta Beauty CEO Dave Kimbell and Philippe Schaus, who most recently served as Global CEO of Moët Hennessy, will serve on the board, the company said.
