May fashion pop-ups
Kimonos, jewelry, and bomber jackets star at 3 Houston fashion pop-ups
Sometimes, a unique pop-up is all that is needed to inspire a fashion adventure. This month, Houstonians are treated to three can't-miss events. From jewelry to elevated loungewear and a vintage, artistically-styled kimono exhibition, here are the temporary gems to add to your calendar.
Camp Aspen's inaugural clothing line will debut at Tootsies May 15 to 18. The collection, named "Elegant by Nature," will focus on women's offerings, including tanks, fitted tees, cashmere travel sets, sherpa vests, quarter-zip pullovers, and bomber letterman jackets — all necessities for Texans who hightail it out of Houston in search of cooler weather each summer.
Camp Aspen is the brainchild of Houston sports entrepreneur Patrick Ryan, who was inspired by the Colorado destination. Now overseen by Patrick's sister Maidie, the pop up will benefit Bo's Place, the only free family bereavement grief support program of its kind in Houston. Available online mid-summer, each piece of elevated loungewear in the Camp Aspen collection will feature the brand's snow leaf logo, representing the "juxtaposition of winter's frosted beauty and the promise of summer."

In celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Houston brand Kimono Zulu will hold a month-long showcase of reimagined, vintage Japanese kimonos at Neiman Marcus in the Galleria. Local fashion designers and contemporary artists, including Sebastien "Mr. D 1987" Boileau, Gonzo247, Magpies & Peacocks, Soi-K, and Rohan Whyte, among others, incorporated their design sensibilities to the vintage kimonos.
"Being invited for this special exhibition during AAPI Heritage Month is a full-circle moment for me, and by shining the spotlight on our collaboration partners, we celebrate their talent and how it can blend beautifully with the art of the kimono," said Kimono Zulu founder Tina Zulu.

Houston native Camille Zarsky will be popping up in River Oaks with her curated collection of jewelry, The Seven West Village. From May 10 to 12 at La Colombe d'Or hotel in Montrose, shoppers can expect cutting-edge designs, signature styles, and unique pieces from notable designers, including Jenna Blake, Emily P. Wheeler, Lauren Rubinski, and Nikos Koulis.
Zarsky, a lifelong jewelry collector, credits her fascination with baubles to her jewelry designer mother and six aunts known in her family as Le Sette Sorelle (The Seven Sisters), the store's namesake.
This hometown pop-up holds special significance for Zarsky, who grew up in the Museum District when her mother was a curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum. She is donating 10 percent of sales to This is Houston, a local nonprofit dog rescue that helps severely sick or injured dogs.
