a big switch
Clean beauty pop-up in River Oaks switches to new permanent retreat
Ingredient-conscious beauty brand Switch2Pure has grown out of its River Oaks District pop-up. The locally owned clean beauty and wellness retailer is opening its first brick-and-mortar at 3601 W. Alabama St. in February 2020.
“When on a wellness journey or just being conscious about what you put on [the] skin, people want a trusted source,” Estela Cockrell, founder, tells CultureMap. “Our space is exactly that, a retreat, something warm and familiar with just the amount of expertise you deserve.”
The company was founded by Cockrell, a former attorney, after she struggled with her health — including food allergies, Celiac, and Lyme disease. By revitalizing her lifestyle to eliminate and reduce toxins, embrace clean, eco-conscious, and organic practices (including tossing her beloved luxury beauty, skincare, and cleaning products), Cockrell launched Switch2Pure in 2017 as a one-stop online store dedicated to helping other women make the “switch to pure.”
“It’s never too late to start the switch2pure,” she says. “Small, daily changes make a huge impact on your overall health.”
Switch2Pure’s team of estheticians, beauty experts, and wellness mentors are trained in clean, mindful beauty practices. The clean beauty guru believes that cancer-causing ingredients and neurotoxins aren’t a myth. All products the brand carries, including its signature line, meets its ‘pure promise’ toxin-weeding database, aren’t tested on animals, don’t have toxic synthetics, and are eco-consciously packaged.
“Good marketing means nothing,” she says. “It’s about the quality of every single ingredient.”
Houstonians and clean beauty lovers alike can expect a thoughtfully designed retail area featuring accordion-style dimensional walls to showcase Switch2Pure’s signature skincare and body care products, formulated with natural, active ingredients, including full-spectrum cannabidiol (CBD), bakuchiol, nature’s retinol, hyaluronic acid, probiotics, sea kelp, and more.
Designed by renowned architect Jesse Hager of Content Architecture, the more-than-2,000-square-foot space reflects the brand’s core ethos and will feature eco-friendly and pure elements.
Services also include private consults with Switch2Pure’s wellness director and functional nutritionists, who are dedicated to optimizing clients’ immunity with customized food plans and powerful nutraceuticals. Cockrell adds that wellness is at the heart of all of their offerings.
“It’s a fun and pure approach to beauty and wellness,” she says. “We decided to extend our offerings and services to meet the needs of our amazing purists.”
Switch2Pure’s retreat will offer CBD and gua sha facials, opportunities to blend a custom facial oil at the mixology station, self-service facials and parties at the glow bar, organic spray tanning, European-developed notox facial treatments, a treatment designed to mimic anti-aging benefits without the use of injectables, and more. The space will also include ozone and infrared saunas which aid in strengthening the immune system, detoxifying the skin, and preventing infections.
Greeted by Team Switch, Houstonians and clean beauty enthusiasts will “experience a range of skincare and self-care products that are deeply rooted in pure, performance-based beauty, alongside our nutritional counseling and wellness products,” adds Cockrell in a press release.
The brand is scheduling appointments beginning January 2, 2020.
