New Sex Toy Store Moves In
Amid all the gentrification, a new sex toy store spices up Montrose's main drag
As Mary's, Chances and other Montrose landmarks have been replaced by chi-chi restaurants, spiffed-up coffee houses and even "make your own candle" shops, it looks like "Houston's Greenwich Village" is rapidly being transformed into "Tidytown." But the city's most eclectic neighborhood hasn'tbeen totally prettied up as some of the "live and let live" attitude remains.
It is likely to carry more fetish items and other pleasure toys that might appeal more to segments of the gay community.
Adam & Eve of Houston, which bills itself as "America's most trusted source of adult products," is headed to the heart of Montrose, in a prime location on Westheimer and Waugh next to El Real restaurant. The space formerly housed Fashion Studio men's clothing store. The chain, with stores in The Woodlands and Willowbrook, specializes in sex toys, fetish items, adult videos and lingerie.
An employee who answered the phone at the Willowbrook location said the Montrose store plans to open around the first of the year. She said it is likely to carry more fetish items and other pleasure toys that might appeal more to segments of the gay community.
"There's quite a bit of difference between Montrose and Willowbrook," she said.
She may have a point, although 50 Shades of Grey seems to have a rabid following among a lot of suburban moms.
