Totally awesome new Lego exhibit builds a massive block party downtown

    Steven Devadanam
    Oct 25, 2022 | 4:50 pm

Whether a source of inspiration and creativity for little kids, or a source of nostalgia or pain (when stepping on sharp-cornered pieces) for big kids, Legos are an inherent part of the American experience.

Now, Houstonians of all ages can build on the joy of that experience with a veritable block party headed downtown. Awesome Exhibition – The Interactive Exhibition of LEGO Models created by LEGO Certified Professional Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught (whew) opens to the public on Saturday, October 29 at the George R. Brown Convention Center (1001 Avenida De Las Americas).

This is the first time the colorful (and very long-titled) show comes to Houston. Tickets for the vivid event are available now online.

Visitors can expect more than 30 displays — created solely by Lego bricks — in four themed rooms with immersive sound components meant to elevate the experience. Iconic global vistas will be completely recreated, replicas include Windsor Castle, Sydney Opera House, the Space Needle, and more. Things get wild with a kangaroo, platypus, a family of penguins, and more from the animal kingdom.

For some pop culture, an exhibit dubbed Let’s Go to the Movies! will showcase a version of the unforgettable 1981 Delorean time machine of Back to the Future, The Simpsons TV with the signature living room on screen, and various movie posters of classics including E.T, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

For a some adventure, The Danger Zone will house a replica of the first submersible to reach the deepest place in the ocean, the Trieste Bathyscaphe; the largest truck in the world, the Caterpillar 797 Mining Truck; and powerful wild animals like an orca, crocodile, and redback spider.

For a perfect fit, Brick by Brick will display a giant LEGO brick and LEGO snake wall allowing creative types to highlight their own creations.

As immersive journeys and passports are all the rage, each guest will receive a passport that is stamped in each room as a commemorative gift.

Fans can see how the fun stacks up through December 30. For more information, visit the official website.

Austin City Limits Music Festival fans are jumping on the chance to get cheaper access to the festival by buying ahead. The first pre-sale for the 2026 festival is officially open as of Wednesday, December 10. The festival will be held October 2-4 and 9-11.

The 2026 lineup has not yet been announced, so fans are going in on tickets for the experience alone. It'll be awhile before attendees find out who's performing; the 2025 lineup was announced in May. Three-day general admission tickets and GA+ tickets for Weekend One sold out within hours of the lineup announcement, making the pre-sale a smart move for folks who don't want to risk missing out.

Five types of tickets are available for each weekend via the pre-sale:

    • 3-day general admission: starting at $325
    • 3-day general admission plus: starting at $700. These tickets include access to a lounge, upgraded restrooms, a private bar, dedicated food vendors, and more.
    • VIP: starting at $1,670. These tickets include access to two VIP Groves, dedicated entry lanes, viewing docks, upgraded restrooms, exclusive food vendors, complimentary salon services, Wi-Fi, and more.
    • Platinum: starting at $5,670. These tickets include similar amenities to VIP, plus a Platinum Parlor, front-of-stage viewing, golf cart transportation, complimentary lockers, pre-sale access to ACL Fest Nights shows, and more.
    • Y'all Access: starting at $27,000. These tickets include similar amenities to Platinum, plus access to the Artist Village and Partner Lounge, invitation to a dinner on the grounds Thursday evenings, a reserved parking spot, and more.

In addition to the five ticket types, there are other add-ons for group hospitality.

Before checking out, buyers should know their purchase is subject to a six-ticket maximum. There are also layaway plans for each ticket type, starting at $20 per ticket for general admission.

Single-day passes are not yet available for 2026.
