Is Houston’s infamously uncooperative weather ruining your pickleball plans? A brand-new indoor pickleball facility that's opening this fall may be the solution, and memberships go on sale this week.
Casa Pickle is currently under construction at 8725 Meadowcroft Dr. Strategically located west of the Galleria, south of Memorial, and east of the Westchase District, it will be a 20,000-square-foot facility with nine CushionX courts certified by the Professional Pickleball Association. Additional amenities include changing rooms, a lounge, and a bar. An upstairs area will let audiences watch the action from above.

The project has serious pickleball credentials behind it. The site is being developed by Hal Martin, the co-owner of Houston’s National Pickleball League team, the Hammers, and his partner along with Dr. Rommie Maxey, described in press materials as one of the world’s top pickleball influencers. They are joined by Josh Corley, the founder of Seismique.
“Casa Pickle aims to provide accessible, premium pickleball facilities and a thriving community atmosphere regardless of Houston weather conditions, addressing a gap in the indoor pickleball court availability in this area,” Corley said in a statement. “Pickleball is one of those sports that everyone can enjoy. No matter your age, background, experience level — it’s fun.”
Memberships are available for pre-order at $150 a month at CasaPickle.com. Once opened, members will have priority to reserve courts.
Pickleball has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon over the past few years. The game is similar to tennis, though played on a court a quarter of the size. Invented as a children’s game in the 1960s, it’s gained meteoric popularity thanks to its accessibility for players of all ages, genders, and ability levels. It’s attracted some high-profile fans, such as basketball star LeBron James. The game’s simplicity, low cost to access, and diversity has made it a popular social media activity.
Houston is big in the world of pickleball. In June, the Hammers earned a second-place finish at the National Pickleball league Championships in Columbus. Currently, they are ranked first in the league. A world-class indoor facility is likely to attract more attention and talent to the Bayou City as the popularity of pickleball grows.
