Opening Up
See Beyoncé's wedding dress and other private footage in the Houston superstar'snew video
Beyoncé Knowles is as known for her insistence on personal privacy as she is for her chart-topping music.
Although the Houston-born singer/actress/bad-ass businesswoman is often photographed on red carpets and at starlit events, she's notoriously private when it comes to her personal life. When she dumped her dad as longtime manager (following an extramarital affair and a resulting half-sibling) she said nearly nil.
And when Beyoncé wed Jay-Z on April 4, 2008, it would have gone nearly unnoticed if not for Kelly Roland (coincidentally, the same childhood friend and former fellow Destiny's Child member who maybe revealed her baby's sex a few weeks ago).
But Bey seems to be opening up. She's tentatively started discussing her pregnancy after revealing it silently at the 2011 Video Music Awards. And in her latest video for "I Was Here," off of 4, Beyoncé lets fans in on an ultra-personal side of her journey.
As she seamlessly croons lyrics like "I want to say I lived each day, until I die/ And know that I meant something in, somebody's life/ The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave/ That I made a difference, and this world will see," images flash of Beyoncé competing in childhood talent shows, promoting her music in the earliest days of Destiny's Child, vacationing with Jay-Z (about whom she is usually tight-lipped) and BOOM — a shot of her wedding dress.
It's the most personal footage we fans have ever seen, and it's the perfect backdrop to a song about leaving her mark on the world both personally and publicly.
