Aurora Greenway at Cinema Arts
It's official: Shirley MacLaine commits to Houston's movie festival
Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine has officially committed to attend the Cinema Arts Festival, confirming a story that was first reported on CultureMap earlier this week. MacLaine will screen Terms of Endearment, for which she won Best Actress, Nov. 13 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
The film about a mother and daughter's tumultuous relationship(s) won five Academy Awards and features scenes in Houston's historic Brennan's restaurant as well as in River Oaks and The Heights. While here, MacLaine will receive the 2010 Film Award — created to honor a classic film shot in Texas or an artist who has made significant contributions to film in the state.
Variety critic and CultureMap contributor Joe Leydon will host a chat about MacLaine's illustrious career and experience as Aurora Greenway.
MacLaine needn't go far for her appearance in Houston. She's currently filming Bernie with director Richard Linklater in Austin.
The Cinema Arts Festival will be held Nov. 10-14 at Houston Visitors Center, Discovery Green, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Rice Media Center and Edwards Greenway Grand Palace Stadium 24. The event is the only festival in the United States devoted solely to films by and about visual, performing and literary artists.
