Ride 'em cowboy
The stakes will be high in RodeoHouston's new "Super Shootout"
There’s a showdown coming to town. Cowboys from across North America will be headed here to compete in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s newest addition: “Super Shootout: North America’s Champions.”
Ten of the greatest rodeo champions on the northern continent will clash spurs March 20, 2011, in four categories: Bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding and saddle bronc riding.
With a total purse of $200,000, officials are calling it the richest one-day rodeo event ever. The winner in each category will take home $25,000.
The two-hour show is by-invitation-only, but will be televised live.
“This is the biggest change in the sport of rodeo in recent history," RodeoHouston president Skip Wagner said in a news release. "It will be the first time that a rodeo championship has featured all the champions from the top 10 rodeos in North America."
The list includes: the Calgary Stampede, the Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, the Greeley Stampede, the National Western Stock Show, the Pendleton Round-Up, Reno Reno, Rodeo Houston and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
