Breaking It Down
The real story behind Chris Brown and Drake's wild bar brawl — and Rihanna'strue role
You only live once — so why not engage in a fight over an ex that turns a New York City nightclub into a house of broken glass?
Chris Brown took a bloody hit to the chin early Thursday morning in a bar fight with Drake that reportedly revolved around each rapper's relationship with Rihanna.
The brawl apparently began when Brown sent a bottle over to Drake's table, a gesture that was not well received, according to Russell Simmons' hip-hop blog Global Grind. (Who's more credible with hip-hop news than Russell?)
As the argument escalated, Drake allegedly punched Chris Brown in the face and struck him across the chin with a bottle.
Drake then "went face to face in the club with Brown and began arguing about Rihanna," Global Grind reports. "Some believe (rapper) Meek Mill may have instigated the fight." Mill was hanging out with Drake at the club that night.
TMZ reported that the argument over Rihanna was a clear reference to a recent Twitter war between Brown, Drake and Mill about who's "banging" the 24-year-old beauty.
As the argument escalated, Drake allegedly punched Chris Brown in the face and struck him across the chin with a bottle, Global Grind reports. A full-on brawl then broke out between members of the respective rappers' posses.
By the time the police arrived all three hip-hop artists had already left the club, with no one arrested. Assault and battery charges could be filed against Drake or Brown, and members of their respective entourages, if there' is enough evidence. W.i.P. — the New York City club where the fight took place — has turned over video footage of the incident to the police.
Drake's spokeswoman (what a job!) Allison Elbl Striegel issued a statement to the Today Show, saying the 25-year-old singer "did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at (the club) W.i.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began. He did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property."
Chris Brown spokesman Jeff Raymond responded with his own statement: "Chris, Karrueche (Tran, who is Brown's girlfriend) and his friends were victims of a brutal attack last night at W.i.P. They sustained several injuries. Chris and his party are cooperating with NY authorities who are pursuing this incident further."
Brown tweeted a picture of his bloody chin with the remarks, "Bottles? It's nothing? Throwing bottles like girls? #shameonya!"
The photo and tweet have since been deleted and neither Drake nor Mill have taken to Twitter over the Rihanna battle royale. Yet.
