The 10 best Houston spots featuring summer movies under the stars
It’s summertime, which means there will be plenty of parks and outdoor spots in and around Houston that are prime locations for people to catch a free movie under the stars (when it’s decidedly cooler). Whether it’s date night or quality time with the fam, there’s something about getting some blankets, packing up a picnic basket, and catching a flick in the open air that’s just so...summery.
Here are 10 places that offer weekly, monthly or one-time outdoor screenings all through the summer.
The Square in Memorial City will have Friday night screenings of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (June 8), A Wrinkle in Time (June 15), Power Rangers (June 22), and Peter Rabbit (June 29). It starts at 8 pm.
Dow Park in Deer Park hosts nights every first Saturday of the month, hitting audiences with Deep in July and Wonder Woman in August. It starts at dusk.
Sugar Land Town Square will play family flicks every second Saturday. The lineup is Little Giants (June), Paddington 2 (July) and Peter Rabbit (August). It starts at 8:30 pm.
Pearland Town Center will offer folks outdoor screenings every other Saturday. This month, you can catch screenings of Little Giants (June 16) and The Lion King (June 30). It starts at dusk.
Tomball Depot will show The Lego Ninjago Movie (June), Arthur Christmas (July) and The Emoji Movie (August) as part of its 2nd Saturday at the Depot monthly event. It starts at dusk.
CityCentre will have screenings of Alice in Wonderland (June), The Sandlot (July), and La La Land (August) on the second Wednesday of every month. It starts at 9 pm.
The Downtown District will present some '80s and '90s movies (Pretty in Pink in June, Stand by Me in July, and Field of Dreams in August) on the last Thursday of the month, at Market Square Park. It starts at 8:30 pm.
Levy Park will have Texas Children’s Hospital-sponsored showings on the last Fridays of June (Moana) and August (The Jungle Book). It starts at 8 pm.
The Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow will screen The Greatest Showman in the courtyard in the front of Las Alamedas on Thursday, June 21. It starts at dusk.
Discovery Green and Taquerias Arandas will have a “Screen on the Green” screening of Despicable Me 3 on Saturday, June 23. It starts at 8:30 pm.
