A sexy tupperware party? Somehow this sweet Dixie makes that unheard of vision come true
They just don't make tupperware like they used it — and that's a good thing for fast-talking, southern belle Dixie Longate, fresh off a not your run-off-the-mill Alabama trailer park enclave, where double-wides rules and church isn't church without Jell-O shots and a fully stocked bar.
(Why priests preach the same sermons over and over again and don't get to the Bible's sequel — well, that's just tasteless for this sales queen.)
Yes Theatre Under the Stars is turning to the dark side for its production of Dixie's Tupperware Party, set to play at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts from Tuesday through June 14. The hilarious show inaugurates TUTS' presence in Zilkha Hall, the smaller and more intimate of the Hobby Center theaters.
Dixie's Tupperware Party, written by Kris Andersson, produced by Down South LLC and directed by Patrick Richwood, earned a Drama Desk Award Nomination. It's a one-woman show styled by Miss Longate herself. Sometimes faithful to the text, at other times filled with from-the-cuff risqué hilarity, Dixie recounts how her parole officer inspired her to become the "No. 1 Tupperware Seller in the World."
Leave your kiddos at home for this one. Dixie's Tupperware Party is best suited for mature audiences. You wouldn't want the little ones to know everything one can do with tupperware — do you?
This sassy gal stopped by CultureMap's offices to offer a preview of how plastic containers can turn into a life-long obsession. Yes, there's audience interaction.
