Alley continues Summer Chills tradition with Agatha Christie classic
As Houston temperatures soar this summer, why not take refuge in the air-conditioned Alley Theatre for 2011's Summer Chills feature, And Then There Were None?
An Agatha Christie classic, the play follows a group of strangers vacationing on a secluded island who, one by one, suspiciously meet their fate. Who (or what) is the menacing force behind these tragedies? The search for the culprit is sure to keep audiences on the edges of their seats — thoroughly chilled.
The Alley has been doing Summer Chills as long as I can remember, and obviously long before then, too. In the Alley's 64-year lifetime, they have produced 20 Agatha Christie works. The Alley touts the series as a great way to introduce first-timers to the joys of theater, and it was definitely the way I was initiated into the world of the Alley. Summer Chills and A Christmas Carol are to the Alley what The Nutcracker is to every ballet company in the world — a great, non-threatening way to pique the interest of newcomers.
While all of the Summer Chills pieces are murder mysteries or otherwise fall into the category of "thriller," they are mostly classic and well-known works, which tend to be less than terrifying for anyone who lived through a screening of The Exorcist.
And Then There Were None runs June 29 - July 31 with nightly performances and Saturday and Sunday matinees. For tickets and more information, visit the Alley's website.
