Bane of Batman's existence: Fans dissect Dark Knight Rises trailers & postersfor clues about evil mastermind
Fanboys and fangirls are busily dissecting two new trailers for this summer's Dark Knight Rises, the third and final installment of director Christopher Nolan's "realistic" reboot of the Batman franchise that will see its U.S. release on July 20.
Unveiled late Wednesday night, the previews offer up a movie that appears slightly lighter that its two predecessors, with even a romantic tension between the Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne and Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle (better known as Catwoman).
"There's a lot of excitement about the arrival of Bane," said Third Planet's David Andreade about the evil mastermind played by British actor Tom Hardy in the new film.
While a series of new posters was also unveiled this week, few clues have emerged as to how the most recent Caped Crusader trilogy will end. On Friday, CultureMap called Third Planet — "Houston's sci-fi and comic superstore" — to speak with general manager David Andreade for an overview of the speculation.
"There's a lot of excitement about the arrival of Bane," he said about the evil mastermind played by British actor Tom Hardy.
"In the comics from the early '90s, he releases a bunch of imprisoned criminals into Gotham City. As Batman gets weaker and weaker fighting them, Bane manages breaks his back. In the series, another character steps in to continue the battle."
With the inclusion of Bane in Dark Knight Rises, Andreade said that fans are desperate to know if the back-breaking plot line factors into the film and if a new character will be introduced to carry on the same Bat mantle.
