Cinco de Mayo 2019
10 Houston hot spots to shake it up this Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo is that time of year when we celebrate the Mexican Army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla. (Actually, most of us drink tequila and margaritas and try our damnedest not to be culturally insensitive.)
For those who celebrate by dining and imbibing, here are 10 events/parties/food and drink specials where you can toast May 5 in grand, festive fashion.
Chapman & Kirby Bar + Kitchen
For its third annual Cinco de Mayo party, this spot will be going all out. We’re talking a live band, mariachis, piñatas, Jarritos, frozen margaritas, giveaways, tacos and other Mexican bites, and six freaking DJs! Noon to 2 am.
Cinco de Derby
One of the many events merging Cinco de Mayo with the Kentucky Derby this weekend, this event will have signature cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres, a raw bar, and decadent desserts. And it will also benefit the Houston Food Bank. 5-8 pm.
¡Dame Cinco!
Tequila Cazadores will be the brand hosts for this event, to be held at Pistolero’s. They’ll have $5 food and drink specials, a game show-like sampling experience, and Kariachi, which is karaoke with mariachis. 4-7 pm.
Discovery Green
Of course, Discovery Green is gonna have a big extravaganza on this day. Join Bombón’s La Comadre and DJ Gracie Chavez as they emcee an afternoon of performances celebrating Mexican culture and heritage. 3-5 pm.
Fast Eddie’s Billiards & Sports Bar
All of the Fast Eddie’s locations in Texas (including the one here in Houston, over on Gulf Freeway) will have specials running on various Patron margarita options, as well as plenty of pool and games to entertain. 1 pm to 2 am.
Hotel Derek
Get ready for a poolside Cinco de Mayo celebration, as partygoers will have access to the hotel’s splash pool. Guests will also be greeted by a signature Patron cocktail, with fajitas on the grill, music, and poolside games. 11 am to 6 pm.
The Manor House at The Houstonian
This spot will throw a lavish soirée — called Fiesta Cinco de Mayo — that will include famoso mariachis, premium cocktails with Mexico’s finest, estate-grown/bottled tequilas, Davidoff Cigars, and guests in stylish Guayabera party attire. 1-4 pm.
The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation
Ninfa’s will offer a $12 red, white & green margarita trio, featuring watermelon, cucumber, and jalapeno flavors. You can also get a famous Original Ninfarita or a Navigation Margarita (made with Codigo 1530 Blanco Tequila). 10 am to 10 pm.
The Roastery Coffee Kitchen
Head over to the newest location on San Felipe and check out the Cinco de Mayo menu, starting at 11 am. There will be drink specials (including $2 Corona/Modelo), food specials (including $2 street tacos) and, yes, coffee specials. 8 am to 9 pm.
Yard House
Apparently known as “the modern American gathering place where beer and food lovers unite,” all Texas locations will be offering $5 house margaritas, salted watermelon margaritas, and pomegranate margaritas until 11 pm. 11 am.
