MFAH spins a wild mixed media party with Dutch DJs and Van Gogh
For the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s latest MFAH Mixed Media party, the museum is going Dutch — in more ways than one.
With the Vincent Van Gogh: His Life in Art exhibit currently going on at the museum (which will run through June 27), the latest Mixed Media soiree will have a Dutch theme.
For starters, the headlining DJs will be Kraak & Smaak, a musical production trio from Leiden, The Netherlands. Along with releasing their own material, these guys have remixed tunes from such artists as Jamiroquai, Moby, Junkie XL, and Maxwell. They’ve also had music featured on several, stateside television shows, including Grey’s Anatomy.
Joining Kraak & Smaak will be local, deep-house DJ En Funque (who was born and raised in Amsterdam) and Houston’s own record-spinning superstar DJ Sun (who was born in Rotterdam).
“I’m really looking forward to the Kraak & Smaak DJ set and being part of a Dutch-inspired Mixed Media, complete with Van Gogh exhibition,” says Sun, “Especially since I was born in Rotterdam and spent seven years there plus summers, well into my teens.”
The Van Gogh exhibit will be open to all attendees, and Austin’s Stroop Club will also be there, serving authentic Dutch stroopwafels.
