A Too Fitting Pairing
Tiger Woods leans on Houston in his Masters return
When Tiger Woods took the tee for his first official practice round at the Masters today, former University of Houston standout Fred Couples was the golfer standing at his side.
As fans cheered Tiger in his first time in front of a crowd since his cheating scandal broke, Couples joked with him to defuse the tension, according to the New York Daily News. While choosing Couples may have been comfortable for Tiger, the world's No. 1-ranked golfer may have missed the potential irony of the practice pairing.
Couples has been through two divorces himself and the 50-year-old is one of the more renowned skirt chasers on the PGA Tour. A few years ago, I played with a good friend of Couples on a private course in Arizona, who spent a large part of the round wondering how Couples could have screwed up another relationship with a woman who truly loved him because of his wandering eye. Couples' buddy clearly almost felt betrayed himself too.
Is this really the guy who should be the first choice as a playing partner for someone who claims he's getting treatment for a sex addiction?
Then again, maybe Fred and Tiger have a lot to discuss. Tiger will not have a wife cheering him on at Augusta either. Elin (still Tiger's wife for at least now) is staying away from the Masters this week.
