springtime on the rooftop
Houston's first rooftop cinema unveils new spring lineup full of cool classics and singalong hits
As the weather warms in Houston, locals look forward to the al fresco life, packing parks, patios, and rooftops. And perhaps no rooftop spot in the city is hotter than the Rooftop Cinema Club, which has just announced its 2019 season.
The wildly popular social/outdoor theater experience that boasts cool flicks and skyline views of Uptown kicks off its spring lineup on March 13 with a beloved Texas classic and Houston favorite, Selena.
Doors won’t officially open till then, but fans can still grab advance tickets when they go on sale online at noon, Wednesday, February 13. Tickets start at $17 per person for a one-person lounge seat. A single person seat paired with bottomless popcorn is $20. Tickets for couples or anyone looking for a roomier love seat, plus bottomless popcorn, are $24 per person.
If last year was any indicator, tickets should move fast, as the experience makes for a fun date night, family outing, or group party. The cinema will bring back movie grub from Good Dog Houston, which offers three new dogs: the Picnic Dog, the Uptown Dog, and The Dude. Additional fare includes fruit and cheese plates, frito pie, and chili cheese nachos. Adult beverages include a full bar with craft cocktails, local beer options, and an assortment of wines.
March will see familiar classics and for the first time, special “sing-along” versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Grease, March 14 and 19, respectively. April will celebrate the ’90s with hit films like Ghost, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, and special-themed nights such as Bridesmaids, April 23, with fun extras inspired by the film.
To address demand, the cinema has extended normal hours to offer a film seven nights-a-week through the end of April. Double screenings on the same night are scheduled every Friday and Saturday evening through the first weekend in April.
