Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go!
Kissing for a Cause: Macy's Mistletoe on the Go! is popping up all over downtown
If someone wants to meet you under the mistletoe this holiday season, be sure and ask them where, because this season the mistletoe is on the go.
Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! puts the fun in fundraiser as the giant candy cane and mistletoe ball (the largest in Texas, where everything really is bigger) travels to five downtown locations where couples can smooch under the ball and post a photo of the kiss at Downtown Houston's Facebook page. For every photo posted, Macy’s will donate a dollar (up to $5,000) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.
Besides the fun of a giant mistletoe ball and puckering up for a good cause, the traveling decoration will also highlight some of the holiday magic happening downtown.
It all starts with the Mayor’s 2012 Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting Ceremony Presented by Reliant on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. Mayor Annise Parker is inviting all Houstonians to join her that evening at City Hall’s Hermann Square for “this 93-year tradition of beginning the holiday season with friends and family and ignite our famous skyline with music, lights and fireworks.”
And share a kiss under a four-foot mistletoe ball hanging from a 15-foot candy cane! What more do you want from a holiday party?
Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! will be at Hermann Square through Dec. 2 before moving to the historic Market Square Park, then on to The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts from Dec. 10-16. Then it’s on the move again, stopping for a week at Fish Plaza in front of Wortham Theater Center from Dec. 17-23, and finally ending up at Discovery Green for a final week from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1.
The whole traveling mistletoe is brought to you by Macy’s and the Downtown District.
“A kiss under Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! is the perfect opportunity to support a great organization – Make-A-Wish Foundation– and secure that perfect holiday photo!” said Angie Bertinot, director of marketing and communications for the Downtown District. “There will be a host of fun activities, from concerts to theater to movies, at each Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! location, so head downtown for family fun this holiday season!”
“We are thrilled to partner with the Downtown District to bring this fun amenity to downtown this holiday season,” said Regina Garcia, vice president and store manager of Macy’s downtown. “Macy’s Mistletoe on the Go! truly embodies the spirit of the holidays by encouraging Houstonians to get cozy with loved ones while supporting a charity that is incredibly meaningful to Macy’s.”
As if you needed another reason to pucker up for a “Kiss-mas photo,” you will also receive weekly specials from the Macy’s downtown store. Through Dec. 1, you can get 25 percent off of everything in the store. Just download your coupon from facebook.com/visitdowntownhouston.
So grab that lip balm and your cell phone camera and head downtown this season for fun and fundraising for Make-A-Wish.
