Galleria kicks off the holiday season with 450,000 tree lights and skating Santa
An enormous Christmas tree and stunning ice skaters drew hundreds of Houstonians to The Galleria's ice skating rink for the shopping destination's 27th Annual Tree Lighting and Ice Spectacular to kick off the holiday season.
The celebratory event featured a performance by Ren Patrick of Los Angeles-based pop group Stamps and spirited ice routines by professional skaters decked out in red, green and silver ensembles — and even sparkling cowboy hats for a Texas twist. During the 45-minute performance, skaters skillfully darted around the massive 55-foot tree — decorated with 450,000 twinkling lights and 5,000 glittering ornaments — towering in the center of the mall's rink.
Even Santa Claus himself — who dazzled the crowd with his ice skating prowess — was on hand for the ceremonious tree lighting. After the jolly old elf helped light the tree, the holiday celebration finished with a dazzling fireworks display.
