Pet of the Week
Meet Ginger the charming Chihuahua, CultureMap's pet of the week
Name: Ginger, as in Ginger Baker of the Hall of Fame rock band Cream, Ginger Grant (Tina Louise) from Gilligan's Island, and Hollywood legend Ginger Rogers. In England and America, a redheaded person is called a "ginger." Curiously, in Australia, a redheaded person is often called "Blue."
Birthdate: October 30, 2010. In dog years, I'm an older babe, but I'm small so I've got a long way to go. Remember, this is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, so let's get this thing done. If you remember, last week we featured two Pets of the Week, both seniors, and both were adopted. Yay for you guys.
Ethnicity: I'm a short-haired Chihuahua mix, tipping the scales at 12.4 lean and mean pounds. I'm good on the leash and very playful. Look, I've been around the horn (and tooted it a few times), so I know the whole cute dog bit. You got a lap? I'll be on it. I'm spayed, groomed, checked out medically, and rarin' to go home.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, November 16 at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
Ginger's gabfest: Tried a new fast food special that's so good, it can't wait for next week's Drive-Thru Gourmet review. Taco Cabana has debuted Kickin' Potato Skins at all 170 of its restaurants in Texas and New Mexico.
Here's the breakdown: large, deep-fried spud skins packed with seasoned ground beef and queso, topped with freshly sliced jalapenos, pico de gallo, and sour cream. A six-pack runs you $9.49. These skins are crazy delicious — I made the six-pack my dinner. They're crispy and gooey and spicy. Love 'em. Like everything this good, they're not diet food. Eat a six pack, say goodbye to your six pack.
Also new at TC through the holidays: Tortilla Soup, with rice and two flour tortillas ($3.49). Trio Sampler, with one small quesadilla of your choice, six chicken flautas, small chips with queso, guac, and sour cream ($9.99). Kickin' Grande Nachos, with tortilla chips topped with refried beans, ground beef, guac, pico, jalapenos, and a drizzle of sour cream ($8.99).
