Pet of the Week
Meet Tonka the stout Staffordshire mix, CultureMap's pet of the week

Name: Tonka, as in the Tonka Toy Company. Fun fact, "Tonka" is from the Dakota Sioux word "Tanka," which means "great" or "big." You'll soon see that although my name in Tonka, I ain't no toy breed.
Birthdate: February 24, 2018. I'm young and full of vim and vigor. (How come you never see anything with just vim, no vigor?)
Ethnicity: I'm a retriever and terrier and American Staffordshire combo platter. I'm a big'un — 48 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal. (Wait, that was wrestler Dusty Rhodes' catchphrase.) I have lots of energy and love to play, play, play.
I'm a friendly lad who is gentle and easy to walk on a leash. I'm affectionate and enjoy sitting on the couch with the family. My favorite shows are The Masked Singer and Chicago Med. (I like to guess who the Masked Singer is.) Like last week, I thought the Ladybug was either Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Madonna, or Flo the Progressive Insurance Lady. Turns out it was Kelly Osbourne. My favorite part is when they take off the mask, and you still don't know who it is.
Anyway, I need to be the only dog in your home, I'm a one-dog dog. Wait, here's the best part. Because I've been at the shelter for more than a month, that's makes me a VIP, which means I am 50 percent off the regular price. I will be groomed, fixed and checked out by a vet before I go home with you. So what are you waiting for?
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, November 15, at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
