Mega developer Gerald Hines and Barbara Hines flew in from their home base in London this week to accept Holocaust Museum Houston's Guardian of the Human Spirit Award.
Their long-time friends Brenda and John Duncan chaired the award luncheon at the Westin Galleria Hotel, where a heavy-hitter crowd of 900 raised more than $450,000 for museum programs. In his praise of the couple, John Duncan said the Hineses were being recognized for "his magnificent buildings and their kind acts."
Museum board chairman Mike Goldberg presided over the gathering. Jeff Love, Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell chairman, and Jeff Hines, Hines CEO and the international developer's son, served as finance chairs.
Where to begin with the impressive turnout? Jeri and Marc Shapiro, Naomi Warren, Sue and Lester Smith, Wendy Hines, Lorraine and Ed Wulfe, Anne and Charles Duncan, Lynn Wyatt, Joan Schnitzer Levy and Irvin Levy, Pat Breen, Annise Parker, Punkin and Walter Hecht — the community stalwarts, city leaders and social heavyweights filled the ballroom.
Special guest was the couple's daughter, Serena Steinberg, who flew in from her home in Palo Alto, Calif., to surprise her parents.
