Pet of the Week
Meet Lucy, the bashful beagle mix, CultureMap's pet of the week
Name: Lucy, as in I Love Lucy, Lucy van Pelt from the Peanuts comic strip, and the best Lucy of them all, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Birthdate: October 27, 2017 — just around when the year the Astros won the World Series.
Ethnicity: I'm a beagle and terrier whatever or something. Here's my story. I was found on the street, very pregnant, by a kindly soul who took me in and cared for me until I gave birth to a litter of beautiful puppies.
After that, my foster parent brought me and my pups to Citizen for Animal Protection to be adopted. All of the pups have found homes, except for me. So I'm the last to go. I'm a shy little girl, 20 pounds, who is very laid back and gentle. I'm not a working breed, in other words.
I like walks, and I'm okay left alone if you work 9 to 5 (great song by Dolly Parton). I know a bunch of commands like sit and stay. I'm friendly and gentle with children. I'm obedient, quiet and mellow. So come 'n' get me and put a little love in your heart (another great song, this time by Jackie DeShannon. By the way, I will be spayed when you adopt me, so no more trips to the maternity ward for me.
A little Halloween side item: President Trump thinks the mainstream media is against him. Well, today I'm come to praise Trump, not to bury him (tip of the hat, sort of, to Shakespeare). Earlier this week, at a Halloween party for kids at the White House, Trump gave out full-size Hershey Bars.
Here's the deal, I've eaten Godiva chocolate and all the expensive chocolate you can buy in airport duty-free shops. I say give me a plain old Hershey Bar from the rack at supermarket checkout lanes. I love Hershey Bars. When I was a kid, if we heard about a house giving out Hershey Bars on Halloween, we sprinted to that house. So kudos to the prez for giving Hershey Bars to trick-or-treaters. Now that's a quid-pro-quo I can support.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, November 1, at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
