pet of the Week
Meet Paisley, the sweet and gentle retriever mix, CultureMap's pet of the week
Name: Paisley, as in Peyton Manning's musical understudy, Brad Paisley, and Prince's stately mansion, Paisley Park.
Birthdate: January 11, 2011, which makes me a young senior, but I've got a long, long way to go. As you'll see later, there's a special bonus to me being 8 years old.
Ethnicity: I'm a retriever girly mix of some sort. Look, I won't question your ethnicity, you don't challenge my DNA, okay?
Here's my deal, and get your hankies ready: I've been homeless for three months.
Finally, somebody brought me to the Citizens for Animal Protection shelter. Anyway, despite my harrowing recent past, I'm one of the most lovable dogs the shelter staff has ever seen. Maybe it's because I'm grateful for a safe place. Everybody at the shelter snuggles with me each day. I'm gentle and get along great with children and other beasts. Basically, I'm a hugger, so if you're looking for a sweet pal, I'm your girl.
As always, I'll be groomed and checked out by a vet before you take me home. I'm a little possessive of food, which you can understand, having not had much the past few months. Now here's the special bonus, because I'm a little older, you can adopt me for half price! And as Ron Popeil says, wait there's more! If you're a senior like me, 60 and up in human years, you can adopt me for absolutely free! (You don't get any parting gifts, like Lee Press-On Nails and the CAP home game, however.)
Here's a little personal anecdote. As you know, Ken Hoffman adopted his precious Sally dog from CAP last December 31. The woman who assisted the adoption was CAP staffer Brenda Dealy. She wrote Ken last week with a fun little slice of life. Recently CultureMap's food editor Eric Sandler released his "Top 100 Restaurants in Houston list." Well, Brenda and her husband have a goal for the next year ... they are determined to dine at all 100 on Eric's list. That's called reaching for the stars — and the check.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, September 27, at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
