    Get Your Groove On

Houston's top dance clubs: Get your groove on into the late-night hours at these hot spots

    Elizabeth Rhodes
    Sep 24, 2015 | 11:32 am

Letting loose on the dance floor with choice tracks booming over the speakers is undoubtedly a favorite past time for many Houstonians, and thankfully, there are lots of incredible dance clubs where you can get your groove on. We've assembled a list of some of the city's hottest spots where you can keep dancing well into the late-night hours.

    NUMBERS

    300 Westheimer Rd.
    713-521-1121

A Houston institution, this Montrose spot is known to attract a diverse, dance-loving crowd who enjoys uninhibited fun and live music acts that run the gamut from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Ministry. Be sure to check out Classic Numbers Night each Friday, Houston's longest running weekly event that features music and videos from the '80s mixed by longtime Numbers DJ, Wes Wallace.

    BARBARELLA

    2404 San Jacinto St.

The Houston version of the popular Austin dance club — which features a light-up dance floor — has truly solidified itself as the best place to get down in Midtown. Whether you're at this hot spot for 'Emo' Night on Tuesdays, '90s Night on Thursdays, New Noise on Fridays or '80s Night on Saturdays, this is one dance club where there really is something for everyone and the enthusiastic crowds are certainly a testament to that.

    FIFTH AMENDMENT

    2900 Travis St.
    832-474-3394

If you're looking for a no-holds-barred dance club replete with lasers, smoke machines, velvet rope and bottle service, Fifth Amendment in Midtown is the place for you. The club's DJ's lean towards hip-hop and dubstep, perfect for keeping the dance vibe going until 2 am.

    SOUTH BEACH

    810 Pacific St.
    713-529-7623

Montrose remains a hot spot for gay clubs, and South Beach is by far the hottest. The dress code? Underwear will do just fine! Show off your moves to dance, hip-hop, top 40 and electronic tunes. Don't worry about overheating — liquid nitrogen drops from the ceiling and lasers dot writhing bodies with rainbow light. If you're looking to sweat off the alcohol after hours, you can hit up this dance floor until 4 am.

    ETRO LOUNGE

    1424 Westheimer Rd.
    713-521-3876

From Depeche Mode and The Cure to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, Etro Lounge almost always rocks the '80s beats. A regular crowd of Montrose folks come here for cheap standard cocktails that get you in the dancing mood. The dark interior is punctuated by bright pop art murals and white lights that will make you feel like you've gone back in time and have found yourself in a Duran Duran video.

    THE FLAT

    1701 Commonwealth St.
    713-360-7228

With DJs spinning at this eclectic lounge nearly every night — with tunes ranging from dance and electronic to jazz and reggae — The Flat is the perfect intimate spot for dancing with friends. If you find yourself tired of shaking it on the dance floor, grab a craft cocktail, maybe a snack (options include wings, fries and a number of pizza choices) and a comfy seat to take advantage of the chill vibe of this Montrose gem.

    CLÉ HOUSTON

    2301 Main St.
    713-955-2302

This high-end nightclub in Midtown raises the bar on the Houston nightlife scene and offers the look and feel of a Sin City club. The spacious bar features waitresses in risque outfits, bottle service, up-tempo dance tunes and a dance floor packed with a trendy crowd with plenty of discretionary income to spend.

Houston surpasses Austin as the 6th most fun city in America in 2025

Catching a baseball game at Daikin Park (formerly Minute Maid Park) is one of the many fun things Houstonians and visitors alike can enjoy in the city.

Houston's fun entertainment and nightlife scenes have helped the city surpass Austin in WalletHub's just-released ranking of the most fun American cities in 2025. H-Town now stands tall as the sixth most fun U.S. city this year.

WalletHub's "Most Fun Cities in America (2025)" study compared 182 U.S. cities across 65 metrics — spanning from the number of sports venues, music venues, and shopping centers per capita to the average cost for a restaurant meal — to determine how "fun" each city is. The metrics were split among three main categories: entertainment and recreation, nightlife and parties, and cost.

Las Vegas, Nevada continued its multi-year streak as the No. 1 most fun American city.

Across the three key dimensions, Houston scored the highest for its nightlife and parties rank (No. 10), but its costs (No. 20) and entertainment and recreation ranks (No. 21) still have room for improvement. But overall, Houston's level of "fun" is far higher than most U.S. cities.

Houston's hospitality industry particularly stood out as a cut above the rest after landing in a five-way tie for the highest number of restaurants per capita. The city also landed in a five-way tie for the No. 1 most dance clubs per capita nationwide.

Houston's current "fun" status is three spots higher than its 2024 rank as the 9th most fun American city, and it's a major hike from its No. 19 placement in 2023.

Austin, which ranked No. 6 last year, dropped two spots and now ranks as the 8th most fun city in America in 2025. Other Texas cities that appeared in the top 100 include: San Antonio (No. 23), Dallas (No. 26), Fort Worth (No. 60), El Paso (No. 62), Arlington (No. 71), Plano (No. 78), and Corpus Christi (No. 94).

"The decision of where to live could save or cost you a lot of money and fun, so it’s fair to wonder what makes a fun city," the report's author wrote. "In a city with enough variety, you won’t have to compromise with your friends, family, or even yourself about the next fun activity to do alone or together."

WalletHub's top 10 most fun U.S. cities in 2025 are:

    • No. 1 – Las Vegas, Nevada
    • No. 2 – Orlando, Florida
    • No. 3 – Miami, Florida
    • No. 4 – Atlanta, Georgia
    • No. 5 – New Orleans, Louisiana
    • No. 6 – Houston, Texas
    • No. 7 – San Francisco, California
    • No. 8 – Austin, Texas
    • No. 9 – Portland, Oregon
    • No. 10 – Cincinnati, Ohio
Surprisingly, both Chicago and New York City dropped out of the top 10 most fun American cities. Chicago now ranks as No. 11, and New York City ranks 14th on the list.
