Velvet Ropes are for Schmucks
Celebs love Houston's obscure bars: Gaga, Robert Pattinson & Andy Cohen alldismiss the trendy
I was amazed when I heard that of all places to show her er ... face in Houston, Lady Gaga chose Heights Mexican eatery Spanish Flowers and then followed it up with a visit to Dirt Bar, of all dives (it's distinguishable on Yale only by its neon "222.")
Then the hotter and infinitely more likeable half of Robsten hit town and holed up at notsuoH. Where is Robert Pattinson getting his hangout suggestions? Could you get any more obscure?
I remember when notsuoH wasn't yet above the table and demanded a passcode for entry. And it's not just those trendy, indie kids — it seems every major celebrity that breezes through Houston opts to bypass the thumping clubs for holes in the wall. There seem to be no decent back-door entrances and guarded corner VIP tables in town (though Houston does offer joints with bottle service).
Instead of partaking in or searching for glitz, when celebs hit Houston, they seem to prefer to fly under the radar and try to go largely unnoticed. When Bravo's Real Housewives programming chief/personality hostAndy Cohen was in town, he went to JR's, not the much more trendy Meteor.
Perhaps these vagabond celebrities are avoiding the bother of flashbulbs and recognition by hitting up places where patrons are unlikely to recognize them, and even more unlikely to acknowledge it if they do. We suggest that the next A-Lister in town drop into Grand Prize.
John Mayer (who returns in November) ..... we still expect to see out on Wash Ave.
