Houston drivers should prepare for more closures at the 610 West Loop
September is here, and with the new month comes news for more construction closures for the Inner Loop. The Texas Department of Transportation has announced more work on the bridge deck over a section of IH-610 West Loop southbound at Post Oak Boulevard. This comes as work on the elevated dedicated bus lane continues.
With that, drives should expect a total closure of the 610 West Loop southbound from Woodway Drive to Post Oak Road, including the IH-10 Katy direct connectors to 610 southbound.
These closures will be nightly from 9 pm to 5 am, Tuesday, September 3, to Tuesday, September 10.
Here is how traffic will be affected:
- Loop 610 southbound traffic will be forced to exit at the Post Oak exit ramp and will be able to re-enter the freeway at the Post Oak southbound entrance ramp just north of the Post Oak intersection.
- I-10 eastbound traffic should continue I-10 eastbound to downtown to US 69 South to 610 West Loop.
- I-10 westbound traffic will be encouraged to detour in the vicinity of downtown to access 610 West Loop via US 69 southbound or continue downtown for alternate destinations.
Crews will be working on the bridge decking over the IH 610 West Loop southbound main lanes. A total closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public and the crews working on the bridge above the IH 610 West Loop southbound main lanes.
Police officers will be on scene to assist with traffic flow. All closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
As previously reported, the 610 West Loop Dedicated Bus Lane project aims to improve mobility and safety by adding dedicated right of way and separating buses from general traffic to help reduce congestion on the 610 West Loop.
This project will work in tandem with the dedicated bus lane project under construction by the City of Houston and Uptown Management District, which is already underway from the 610 West Loop to Richmond, according to TxDOT.
