Are you ready to bid adieu to the dog days of summer?
Another sign that the humid inferno we call Houston's midyear season will soon be over is the second coming of the seasonal farmers market downtown.
The City Hall Farmers Market, organized by Urban Harvest, will resume its weekly activities on Sept. 18. Every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., shoppers can expect locally sourced goodness such as produce, prepared foods and ready-to-eat lunches suitable for the on-the-go urban professional.
New this autumn are eight vendors that will complement the supply of fresh provisions. Among them are Airline Seafood (grilled Gulf fish, campechana, tuna salad), Blackbird Foods (pork pies, boudin-stuffed beignets, Cornish pastries), Brenham Kitchens (salsas), Cabrera Farms (bonsai trees, cut flowers), Chef Ara's Catering (dumplings and pasta), Jazz Cafe (catfish po'boys), Ripe Cuisine (vegan fare) and Sustainable Harvesters (produce and salads).
That's in addition to market veterans such as Angela's Oven, Melange Creperie, Sinfull Bakery, Swede Farm, Texas Ladybird Food Truck, Texas Juice Girl Food Truck and Oddball Eats, amid nearly 30 other purveyors.
On tap as the featured cooks for opening day festivities are chefs Aaron Guest of Prego and pastry chef Matt Zoch, who will offer samples of risotto with rabbit. Elmer Fudd's revenge?
The market runs through December, then takes a break for the winter holidays and returns in February.
