A non-profit's fantasy
Mildred's Umbrella goes pin-up: Where does the theater's bold calendar rank onthe sexy firefighters scale?
The ladies of local theater company Mildred's Umbrella have put together a 2011 pin-up calendar to raise funds for the non-profit and some notice for the small arts group. Company members pose in semi-provocative retro get-ups opposite quirky quotes in the calendar, which is just one of several pin-up calendars floating around Houston.
You can purchase the calendar on the Mildred's Umbrella website starting Sept. 1. It will also be sold at the Glass Slipper Gala at the Alley Theatre Nov. 6 from 7 p.m. till midnight. This is the second straight year that Mildred's Umbrella has done a pin-up calendar, continuing a unique tradition for an arts group — but one that other Bayou City institutions have long embraced.
The Houston Fire Department puts out a scorching (get it!?) calendar of area firefighters to benefit the Burned and Crippled Children's fund, although it's got a glaring omission in Fire Chief nominee Baylor.
And the Houston Astros pose with their pets for the Houston Humane Society.
We've got to say — Houston's doing pretty well with this calendar frenzy, but Madrid, N.M., has the pinnacle of pin-ups.
